Get Active in Sonora!

Sonora's climate and location make it perfect for people that like to enjoy the natural world.  Here are some of the activities available to our community everyday!

Caverns of Sonora -  A National Natural Landmark offering daily walking or photography tours.  They also feature the Discovery Adventure Tour for the more adventurous or team building events.

Eaton Hill Nature Center and Preserve - We actually have a wildlife nature center in town!  It's a great place to learn about our flora and fauna or to just take an evening walk with the family to watch an amazing sunset.

Hunting - Our area offers one of the greatest hunting experiences in the entire nation. Local land owners and hunting guide services access exotic species as well as the local favorite the whitetail deer. We also are in an excellent area for dove, turkey and varmint hunting.

Sonora Golf Club - Sonora's region is full of excellent golf courses.  Our local course is an immaculate public 9-hole course that is visited by residents from all over our region and state. This is in part why Sonora is a perennial powerhouse in Texas high school golf.

Mountain Biking - The X-bar ranch offers world class biking trails and hosts the final race for the TMBRA Texas State Mountain Bike Championship Series

Astronomy - Star parties are held every year at the X-bar ranch.  They are open to the public and a great way to learn about our night sky.

Devil's River - This a community favorite. The Devil's River is the least navigated river in Texas and features the largest waterfall in Texas. Due to the extensive care of visitors to its waters, it is also one of the cleanest and most natural bodies of water in the country.

Amistad Reservoir - This lake that lies an hour south of Sonora is the most highly ranked bass fishing lake in America. Amistad offers an array of water sports as well.

Devil's Sinkhole - The Devil's sinkhole is another geological anomoly. This deep crevace into the earth's crust is home to millions of bats that take to the sky each night.
